Aventura
is one of Miami-Dade's newest communities. A young,
vibrant area with a diverse demographic base, it was
incorporated in 1995 as the county's 28th municipality.
Today it has established its niche as an enclave of
condo high-rises and upscale single-family homes surrounded
by tropical landscaping and the beautiful Intracoastal
Waterway. It is internationally recognized as a premier
location in which to live, shop and play.
Aventura's
population is approximately 30,000. Extending for
3.2 square miles, it is conveniently located between
two major South Florida airports, Miami International
Airport and Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
It is also situated between two of the largest cruise
ship in the world, Port Everglades and the Port of
Miami. Downtown Fort Lauderdale and downtown Miami
are just 20 minutes away.
Aventura
has a wide range of restaurants, movie theaters and
shopping centers. The immense Aventura Mall attracts
shoppers from all over the world with its six department
store anchors and 250 shops.
Aventura
Founders Park located in the center of the city features
a bayside path, a playground, tennis courts and a
multi-purpose athletic field.
Since
Aventura's incorporation as a municipality, millions
of dollars have been spent on infrastructure improvements
including streets, sidewalks, lighting, park development,
beautification projects, drainage, and pedestrian
safety. Some other major improvements include:

A state-of-the-art Government Center that houses
all governmental operations including Commission
chambers, police station and administrative offices

A new $4 million Community Recreation Center. It
is located on 2.8 acres of land in a park setting
on the waterfront. A 25,000 sq. ft. facility, it
includes a gym, meeting rooms, computer lab, and
exercise and aerobic facilities.

The first municipal-run charter school in Miami-Dade
County. Doors opened to the Aventura City of Excellence
School in the fall of 2003. It is adjacent to the
new Community Recreation Center. The 45,000 sq.
ft. state-of-the-art school serves Aventura school
children from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Nearby
Aventura and just a few steps from Biscayne Landing
is the impressive Oleta River State Park. This 1,043-acre
park located along Biscayne Bay offers a wide variety
of recreational opportunities including kayaking,
camping, swimming, fishing and picnicking. It also
features over 17 miles of trails for mountain biking,
roller blading and hiking.
